 OFFICER CAMP A SUCCESS

The annual officer camp on June 11-12 at Texas Star Ranch in Peaster, Texas got this year's summer break off to a good start.

All officers attended the two-day workshop in order to better prepare for the upcoming school year. Parliamentary procedure and opening/closing ceremonies were practiced, duties and expectations were discussed, and the 2008-09 Program of Activities and Budget  proposals were organized. Students also benefited from team building and group bonding activities such as the "Parly-Pro Dunk" contest and "Reflections."

Overall the camp was a success! Congrats to the officer team and their hard work at getting ready for the upcoming year!

80th STATE FFA CONVENTION UPDATE

The departure date is drawing nearer for the Texas State FFA Convention! Participants will leave for Lubbock on July 14 at 10 a.m. and return around 7 p.m. on July 18.

Events for those attending the convention include workshops, business sessions, awards ceremonies, team building activities, the Talent Contest, Vespers, and the infamous dance on Thursday night.

The advisors have been working diligently on the schedule and will try to have it completed by Thursday afternoon. We will inform those who are attending when letters of information are ready. They can be picked up at the Ag Center or mailed.

Those who missed out on this year's trip, mark your calendars for next July for a mid-summer blast that you'll never forget!

381 CLAYS PROGRAM TO BE IMPLEMENTED FALL '08

One new program that will be implemented into the FFA program this fall is called 381 Clays. This program consists of shotgun sporting events and will be an extracurricular activity through our FFA program.

Organized by Texas Parks and Wildlife, this proram is meant to be a fun supplement to the Wildlife and Recreation Management class, ag course #381, that most Texas agriculture programs offer. A few of the basic requirements include having had or being enrolled in the Wildlife class and also being Hunter Safety certified.

We have had numerous students, as well as parents and adults within the community, already express interest in participating or helping with this program. If you are interested in participating stay tuned to the website for more information as it becomes available or email Mrs. Key at keyho@mansfieldisd.org.
